We get it, no one’s perfect, but when it comes to taking care of yourself, why not strive for perfection? When it comes to grooming and personal care, black men make mistakes. Whether it’s using mediocre products, failing to get haircuts or visit the dentist regularly – we’ve seen it all. However, the most common grooming mistake is so easy to make we had to dedicate an entire post to it, in hopes that every man will stop doing it once and for all. If soap is one of the male skin care products you're using; you’re playing yourself. Soap is by far the worst thing you can ever put on your face for the reasons below:
The pH of your skin really matters if you want a nice and smooth complexion. As a reminder, the pH balance scale ranges from 0 to 14. A pH of less than 7 is considered acidic and a pH of more than 7 is considered alkaline. The pH level of healthy men’s skin is around 5.5, which makes it slightly acidic, while most soaps have pH levels that range from 9-12, making it high in alkaline. Because of this mismatch, your skin’s surface will be instantly stripped of moisture. When the skin’s pH is too high, your body starts to produce even more oil to fight back and restore its natural pH levels. This causes extremely oily skin and we all know that’s not a good look. You need a face wash for men that will work with your skin’s natural pH, not against it.
Soap pulls moisture out of your skin and causes it to feel dry and tight. Once this happens, your body’s oil production goes into overtime, just to make up for the moisture that was stripped away. This can leave your face oily, inflamed, and red from broken blood vessels. Healthy skin thrives best in moisture – dryness and dehydration will negatively affect your skin’s long-term health and appearance. A good detoxifying facial wash will never leave your skin tight and dry. Anything that dries out your skin should be your enemy. If your skin is usually dry, check out our clarifying face moisturizer
The skin on your face is naturally acidic, which helps fight germs and bacteria. Using soap to wash your face removes this protective barrier, and makes your skin more prone to breakouts. The lack of acid to fight bacteria combined with a lack of oil to provide moisture means a field day for bumps, zits, and irritation. Your body will start to produce excess oil, which will clog your pores, and cause even more breakouts. Soap can also worsen skin conditions such as acne, eczema, dermatitis, and rosacea. Look for facial washes for men that strengthen your skin’s protective barrier, not removes it.
Since soap takes away so many essential oils from your skin, it makes shaving much more uncomfortable. Trying to shave dry skin can be painful and time-consuming. It’s also very difficult to get a close clean shave when your skin has no moisturizing layer of protection. Using soap on your face before shaving can cause razor burn and irritation – it’s just not worth it.
Soap and face washes are not the same thing. Sure, they all might clean your skin, but they are all designed to clean in a different way. The skin on your face is delicate and completely different from the skin on the rest of your body, so it makes sense to care for it differently. Soaps usually have harsh chemicals and ingredients, while facial cleansers are usually designed to clean AND hydrate simultaneously. Body soap will scrub away dirt but also everything else (like essential natural oils).
Our All-Natural Hydrating Face Wash for Men is specifically designed to gently remove dirt while still maintaining your face’s essential oils and pH balance. It also balances out your skin’s oil production to keep your face shine-free all day long. Ditch the soaps and get the skin you always wanted. Stop playing and grab a bottle today.
